History of GlobiFer’s Development

1970
Studies
Professor Peter Reizenstein at the Karolinska Institute Sweden began his studies in the 1970’s on the effects of using a haemoglobin-based iron compared to other non-organic irons for the management of iron deficiency. In his team, he had Dr. Lars Ehn M.D. who also was a haematologist, and the two were soon able to demonstrate that the effects of haemoglobin-based iron far exceeded those of commercially available iron tablets consisting of inorganic iron.
1980
First Product
In the 1980s, Dr. Ehn’s launched his first product which was partly haemoglobin based, and sales grew exponentially. This haemoglobin-based product has been on the market for more than 30 years, and during this time it has not demonstrated any undesirable side effects.
1992
Iron Product
However, Dr Ehn’s continued to explore the potential for the development of haemoglobin-based iron and he sought to partner with a large food derivative company. Work started on methods to enrich the haemoglobin complex with more iron and, after more than 12 years, Dr Ehn’s novel iron product was created.
A patented unique manufacturing process was developed, which allows the binding of nonorganic iron to haemoglobin molecules, which results in an increase in the iron content of haemoglobin from 270mg / 100g to more than 3000mg / 100g. This unique combination of a haemoglobin iron and inorganic iron results in significantly greater iron absorption, which can lead to a more rapid recovery from an iron deficiency state.
